How to do the V-Bar Pulldown
Primary: Lats · also works Biceps, Shoulders, Upper Back.
The V-Bar Pulldown is a strength training exercise designed to target the latissimus dorsi muscles effectively. This exercise involves using a cable machine with a V-bar attachment, and it is known for promoting upper body strength and muscular development, particularly in the back and arms. Ideal for beginners, this exercise helps in building a solid foundation for the muscles involved and can also aid in improving overall posture and stability.
Step by step
- 1
Attach a V-bar to the lat pulldown machine and set the desired weight.
- 2
Sit down on the machine and secure your thighs under the thigh pads. Grasp the V-bar with a neutral grip (palms facing each other).
- 3
Starting with your arms fully extended overhead and your back slightly arched, pull the V-bar down towards your upper chest, squeezing your shoulder blades together at the bottom of the movement.
- 4
Allow the bar to slowly return to the starting position, fully extending your arms overhead to complete one rep.
Coaching cues
- Avoid using momentum; control the weight throughout the entire movement.
- Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together to fully engage the lat muscles.
- Keep your torso relatively still and avoid leaning too far back to maintain proper form.
